Builds & Beers is a communal build night and YouTube series hosted by Kustom Kommune, with the goal to break down the stigma associated with mental health and suicide among young Australians.
Builds & Beers will centre around a community of custom motorcycle enthusiasts transforming a XT600 into a scrambler styled bike over 10 weeks. During the build process, we’ll showcase the mateship and comradery motorcycles have brought to individuals lives through weekly videos. The weekly videos will also include how to tips on customising and maintaining motorcycles, and how to seek help with mental health issues. Our goal is to break down the stigma associated with mental health and suicide among young Australians, by creating a space for people to talk, get their mind off things and become a part of a supportive community.
In Australia, national suicide figures show that, on average, six men take their own lives every day. EVERY DAY. Another 10,000 attempt suicide annually. However, new research shows emergency services attended more than 30,000 cases of men who contemplated or attempted suicide between 2015-2016. THIRTY THOUSAND… 3 x more than once thought.
42 Men have taken their own lives this week. This needs to stop.
