In celebration of its 100-year history, BMW Motorrad has revealed two special edition variants based on its R nineT roadster and R 18 cruiser.

Just a handful of the BMW R nineT and R 18 100 Years editions are expected to arrive in Australia, with just 1923 units of each to be released globally as a nod to the year that the first BMW motorcycle, the R 32, was first revealed to the world.

Pricing has yet to be confirmed, however, the special edition variants will likely come at a significant premium compared to the standard R nineT and R 18, which are sold locally from $26,735 and $24,870, respectively.

According to BMW designers, the R nineT is designed to be reminiscent of the brand’s 1969 R 75/5, while the R 18 reflects the design of the 1936 R 5.

Distinguishing the 100 Years editions is a unique black-and-chrome paint scheme and a healthy dose of extras from BMW’s Option 719 accessories catalogue. Notably, the R 18 special edition features an Akrapovic exhaust system with BMW’s ‘propeller-style’ logo incorporated into its design.

The BMW R nineT continues to be powered by an 1107cc boxer engine that generates 80kW and 116Nm. Meanwhile, the BMW R 18 is motivated by a 1802cc unit that produces 67kW and 158Nm.
