CFMOTO’s local distributor, Mojo Motorcycles, says it is weighing up the business case to release the new 500SR VOOM on Australian soil.

The CFMOTO 500SR VOOM is a four-cylinder sportsbike, first seen in mule form last year alongside a new 675cc triple-cylinder model. INFO MOTO can now confirm that the 675cc sportsbike will launch in Australia, and is expected to make its debut before year’s end, while the 500SR’s release hangs in the balance.

The 500SR VOOM was developed specifically for the Chinese domestic market, and while no official specifications have been revealed, INFO MOTO understands that the bike produces around 80 horsepower meaning that it would not meet LAMS restrictions in Australia. This may prove a sticking point in the decision to launch the bike Down Under.

It is possible that the 500SR VOOM will release in low numbers as something of a hero model, with the likes of the LAMS-approved and value-oriented 450SR continuing as the volume-selling sports model in the line-up.

This bike represents forward progress for CFMOTO as its first-ever four-cylinder model which is believed to be built completely in-house, alongside the incoming 675cc triple platform.

Its closest logical competitor comes in the form of the Kawasaki ZX-4R, a similiarly non-LAMS lightweight sportsbike motivated by a four-cylinder mill.

Distinguishing the CFMOTO is retro bodywork reminiscent of 90s era sportsbikes, with twin round LED headlights, bronze multi-spoke wheels and snub round pipes exiting below the seat.

Official images of the bike reveal a TFT screen indicating advanced rider aids, as well an up/down quickshifter, steering damper and large twin brakes with CFMOTO branding.

Further specifications details are expected to be disclosed in the coming months.
