BMW has made considerable updates to its S 1000 RR sportsbike as revealed overnight with its new-look 2023 model.
UPDATE: BMW Motorrad Australia has today confirmed that its 2023 S 1000 RR will hit showrooms in the first of half of next year, priced from $25,750 rideaway. This translates to a $40 price increase compared to the current 2022 model.
The new BMW S 1000 RR builds on the current-generation sportsbike platform that launched in 2019, with revised aerodynamic bodywork, suspension and chassis tweaks, tech upgrades and a modest boost to power output.
Distinguishing the 2023 model is a redesigned fairing with large aerodynamic winglets that are said to increase downforce to enhance grip and reduce its tendency to wheelie. The rear-end styling has also been tweaked and sees a short number plate holder and the inclusion of a USB charging point, and three new colour schemes will be available locally.
Motivating the 2023 BMW S 1000 RR is a familiar 999cc inline four-cylinder engine. Power has increased by 2kW to 154kW, while torque output remains steady at 113Nm.
The bike’s so-called ‘flex frame’ has been tuned to deliver more flexibility laterally, while adjustements to the chassis’ geometry is said to give ‘clearer feedback from the front wheel’.
BMW engineers have enhanced the S 1000 RR’s traction control system to allow the rider to preset drift angles for sliding out of corners.
“When the preset steering angle value is reached, traction control intervenes, reduces slip and stabilises the motorcycle,” a press release reads.
