Just half of a second splits the six factory teams at the MotoGP Qatar Test.

If pre-season testing is anything to go off, the 2020 MotoGP season is set to be close. Just three tenths seperated the six factories at Sepang, and just half a second at Qatar.

Specifically, pacesetter Maverick Vinales was less than a second faster than Cal Curthlow who finished 19th.

Valentino Rossi was 12th fastest at the Qatar Test, and told press that the closeness of the field is good for the sport.

“First of all it’s incredible because we are 15 riders in about half a second, it’s like Moto2!” said the nine-time world champion.

“This is very good for the Championship and for the fans that will follow the races because there looks to be a lot of balance between different riders and different bikes.”

On the last session of the Qatar test, Vinales set the fastest lap with a time of 1:53.858.
