Harley-Davidson’s big baggers have copped the tech-overhaul of the century. We climb aboard the $46,495 Street Glide and Road Glide.

Step right up! There’s a new bike category in town folks, in the substantial form of the Performance Bagger. By now you will have perhaps witnessed braver people than me belting the big buggers about in the Land of the Free in the King of the Baggers Championship. All this dovetails into the showroom sales charts of course. People want these things and Harley-Davidson knows it, big time. Enter the 2024 Road and Street Glides.

There’s big news in the powerplant department with the new bikes. Yep, they happily get a performance upgrade over the 114ci V-Twin found in lesser models. Born in the brand’s CVO range, the Milwaukee Eight 117 in this guise delivers 80kW and a very reasonable 175Nm from its 1923cc displacement.

The list of high-tech features is numerous indeed. As a big part of the brand’s Grand American Touring lineup, there’s a customisable in-dash setup that includes a whole bunch of sophisticated infotainment options.

Four ride modes are available (Road, Sport, Road and Custom), while cornering ABS and cornering traction control bring the bikes into a new realm of standard rider-aid electronics. This will be welcomed by a market that now demands this sort of level, and at that pricetag, the truth is, it was about time.

All this is easily accessed and controlled via the pretty intuitive 312mm touch screen TFT arrangement at the helm.

So, enough of statistical guff, let’s fire these big babies up.
